Sally Lunn’s is a historic bakery and eating house in Bath, famous as the home of the “Sally Lunn bun,” a rich, round yeast bread that’s become a culinary icon of the city.

The building that houses Sally Lunn’s is among Bath’s oldest, parts dating back to around 1482, with an oven in the basement from the 1100s.

The Sally Lunn was actually Solange Luyon, a Huguenot refugee who arrived in Bath around 1680; she brought with her the recipe for the now-famous bun, and her French name reportedly became “Sally Lunn” due to local mispronunciation.

Interesting facts....

The true recipe for the Sally Lunn bun is one of Bath’s best-kept culinary secrets, allegedly known only to the baker on-site and passed down through generations.
